Q) You are a young, aspiring and sincere employee in a Government office working as an assistant to the director of your department. Since you have joined recently, you need to lean and progress. Luckily your superior is very kind and ready to train you for your job. He is a very intelligent and well-informed person having knowledge of various departments. In short, you respect your boss and are looking forward to lean a lot from him.
Since you have good tuning with the boss, he started depending on you. One day due to ill health he invited you at his place for finishing some urgent work.
You reached his house and before you could ring the bell you heard shouting noises. You waited for a while. After entering the house the boss greeted you and explained the work. But you were constantly disturbed by the crying of a woman. At last, you inquired with the boss but his answer did not satisfy you.
Next day, you were compelled to inquire further in the office and found out that his behavior is very bad at home with his wife. He also beats up bit wife. His wife is not well educated and is a simple woman in comparison to her husband. you see that though your boss is a nice person in the office, he is engaged in domestic violence at home.
In such a situation, you are left with the following options. Analyse each option with its consequences.
a) just ignore thinking about it because it is their personal matter.
b) Repost the case to the appropriate authority.
c) Your own innovative approach towards situation.(250 marks)
Ans) Ignoring such type of acts is against humanism. There are so many domestic violence incidents, we come across the newspaper, but can’t respond due to several constraints. But, dismissing the things, which are happening around the surroundings certainly won’t make a sense. Empathy with her, thinking our family members in her place is a minimum, what any one can do.
Reporting the case to the appropriate authority immediately won’t be the right choice, as it is a personal matter of the higher authority. In midst, several round of talks has to go with the boss and must know exactly the problem and why he is unable to deal the problem, as he is smoothly handling it in the office.
The problem has several dimensions. Even though officers, who got some good name in their professional life and good at the society ended their lives with a bad personal behaviour. There are so many instances, where IAS and IPS officers, who are very successful got notorious for their domestic violence and sexual abuse incidents.
Another dimension is that there might be several personal disputes between the couple, which the third person can’t intrude and settle. However, the violence should not be the outcome.
The approach should be:
a) Several round of talks with the boss, trying to know the causes for the problem in an amicable manner.
b) Trying to convince him for counselling sessions with the Psychiatrist, if we feel there is some mental problem in him.
c) Trying to convince the couple for counselling session if any differences, which can be sort out easily.
d) If there is no other alternative other than protecting her from a Psychopath, a person with male-chauvinistic tendencies, the options left with me are
i) Complaining to the higher ups.
ii) Seeking the help of police and media. Registering case against him under sec-498A of IPC.
iii) Contacting women organisations to reach out to her.
Q) Examine how population crisis and consumption crisis result in environmental problems and suggest remedies to fight these problems
Population crisis have 2 dimensions. One is over shoot, that is population explosion and second is under shoot, i.e levels of TFR coming down.
Several nations like India, majorly faces the Population explosion problem especially after Independence till 1980, and then it came to a plateau level. The effect on environment are:
a) Encroachment on agricultural land to meet the demand of housing.
b) Rising pressure on the land, as the productivity needs to be enhanced. With the same amount of land, so many needs to be fed.
d) Human interventions for agriculture and industry is creating Desertification, soil erosion and rising energy needs of population leading to burning of more fossil fuels, which is increasing the carbon footprint.
Effects of consumption crisis on environment:
a) India, majorly a vegetarian nation, with growing population encroaches on the scare resources.
b) Foods, such as cash crop foods, eggs, poultry products, whose virtual water content is high, are being consumed now-a-days according to the changed nutritional aspirations of the people, which subsequently encroaches on scare water resources.
The balancing of human and natural resources is the global responsibility. The climate conferences needs to emphasise on it too besides taking up the global warming issue.
